"I want to sincerely thank you for the help that you provided in finding available housing for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Your support of the housing placement process was exemplary. When help was needed, you answered the call to provide assistance."

-- Robert Kucab, Executive Director, NC Housing Finance Agency
DHIC is the Triangle's most prolific non-profit producer of affordable housing. Since 1974, DHIC has built more than 1,000 affordable homes in the Triangle and renovated another 400 homes.

DHIC's apartment communities in the Triangle area are home to more than 800 families. Five of these communities are restricted to senior citizens 62 years of age or older, and the rest are available to all qualified applicants.

Our Homeownership Center is the only homebuyer counseling and education program of its kind in Raleigh. DHIC's counselors help prepare future homeowners for the mortgage lending process, and for the responsibilities of owning and maintaining a home.

We also develop new homeownership opportunities, helping more low- and moderate income families in the Triangle realize the American dream of homeownership.

Community building involves more than building decent affordable housing. Through the Community Services Initiative, DHIC provides residents with tools, training and links to community resources, helping them to enjoy a stable, safe and nurturing living environment.

Quality design and construction are hallmarks of our work. DHIC developments have received multiple appearance awards from the City of Raleigh, the towns of Apex and Garner, the NC Housing Finance Agency, and HUD. Builder Magazine and the Parade of Homes also have recognized DHIC's work.

I didn't know where to begin to make this happen. I could easily have been taken advantage of if I hadn't had a DHIC counselor in my court. They worked very hard to make it all happen. They had a network of contacts who were genuinely interested in helping people become homeowners.
