At DHIC, we know building communities doesn't end with construction. Our Community Services Initiative (CSI) is designed to enrich the lives of our residents, increase their sense of community, and promote affordable housing and services throughout the Triangle area.

Our full-time Community Development Specialist assists tenants and residents of all ages to engage in community-building, leadership development, and advocacy activities that encourage greater civic participation among low-income residents. Just some of the activities we offer through CSI include:
  • Community watch programs
  • Youth summer camp scholarships
  • NeighborWorks® Week community celebrations
  • Community socials
  • Financial literacy workshops

Birthday socials-- complete with homemade cakes -- are just one of the many activities offered at our senior communities.

Sally Haile, DHIC's Community Services Coordinator (right), is a true friend to all of our residents.

CSI also works side-by-side with property management staff to ensure DHIC's developments meet the community and supportive services requirements of tax credit investors and other funders.

As part of CSI, we build partnerships and work collaboratively with non-profit, advocacy, and faith-based organizations, particularly in Southeast Raleigh.

We also actively participate in meetings and events related to Wake County Continuum of Care, the City of Raleigh 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, and the Wake County Aging Plan with the Gold Coalition and Citizen Advisory Councils. We explore emerging issues and opportunities in the community by serving on local committees and attending both regional and national conferences.

Through CSI, we continuously engage our residents, staff and partners to identify what works well in our communities as well as potential opportunities for community improvement. For example, we are working on several projects that will increase housing availability for people with disabilities, thus creating livable communities that are both affordable and accessible.

For more information about CSI, contact Sally Haile, our Community Development Specialist.
