DHIC's Homeownership Counselors help potential buyers become mortgage-ready by delivering standardized counseling and training developed by the NeighborWorks America. Through homebuyer education, budget planning, and credit counseling, clients of DHIC's Homeownership Center develop and implement a homeownership plan tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

Here's how you can take advantage of DHIC's Homeownership Center programs:
DHIC's Saundra Harper provides one-on-one counseling to a prospective homeowner.
  1. Initial Contact: First you will need to complete the DHIC Personal Profile Intake Form. This form is available in Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word format along with the Documentation Checklist and directions to our office.

  2. Credit Readiness Review: During this session a Homeownership Counselor will review your credit, income and assets to help identify any obstacles to becoming a homeowner.  We will also develop a corrective action plan as appropriate.  Subsequent individual counseling sessions are scheduled as needed to help you become ready to apply for a mortgage.

  3. Homebuyer Workshop: Clients may choose to attend the six hour workshop at any stage.  Our counselors provide guidance as to when might be best for you to participate.  Attending the workshop is a required step of our counseling process but is also required by several providers of first-time homebuyer loan products.

  4. Loan Prequalification: When you and your counselor determine that you are ready for homeownership, your counselor will help you identify financing, advise you of DHIC homes for sale, and will refer you to a Partner Lender and Realtor that is particularly knowledgeable about the first-time homebuyers' market.

You heard about DHIC. You learned that it is a new one-stop shop that provides services and products to prospective homebuyers and current homeowners. DHIC offers a wide array of services, including homebuyer education, individual counseling and many postpurchase services for homeowners.
