We recognize the importance of accessible, culturally responsive resources for prospective homeowners. Isaac, our bilingual housing counselor, helps Spanish-speaking homebuyers and recently sat down with the Torres family, one of our Homeownership Center clients.
For the Torres family, the path to buying a home began without a clear roadmap. Through our homebuyer counseling, they received guidance on credit, downpayment assistance, and the steps involved in the home-buying process.

Q (English): Can you tell us a little about your homeownership journey before DHIC?
P (Español): Puede contarnos un poco sobre su experiencia en el camino hacia la compra de su vivienda antes de llegar a DHIC?
A (English): We were completely in the dark and did not have a clear direction. We knew that we wanted to own a home, but we had no idea about everything involved in the homebuying process until the day we came to DHIC.
R (Español): Estabamos completamente a oscura si un norte claro queríamos una casa pero no teníamos idea de todo lo que llevaba la compra de una casa hasta el día que llegamos a DHIC.
Q (English): What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the homebuying process?
P (Español): ¿Cuáles fueron algunos de los mayores desafíos que enfrentó durante el proceso de compra de su vivienda?
A (English): Some of our biggest challenges were my husband’s credit, the incorrect information we had previously received, and coming up with the funds needed for the down payment.
R (Español): El crédito de mi esposo, la mala información que teníamos y il inicial para la compra.
Q (English):How did our homebuyer counseling services support you along the way?

A (English): The guidance we received regarding credit, available programs, and the step-by-step support that Mr. Issac provided throughout the process were extremely important to us. His advice on how to manage our finances, along with all the valuable information he provided, helped us tremendously throughout our journey.

Q (English): What does homeownership mean to you and your family?
P (Español): ¿Qué significa para usted y su familia ser propietarios de una vivienda?
A (English): Homeownership is a very important accomplishment for our family. The satisfaction of being able to say, “This is ours,” is an incredible feeling. The joy and excitement are difficult to put into words. All we can say is thank God and thank everyone who supported us throughout this process.
