Are you interested in living in one of our rental communities?

Each DHIC property has its own leasing office that manages the application process and waitlist. If you have questions about unit availability, eligibility, or the application process, please contact the leasing office of each property. DHIC does not maintain this information in its corporate office.

What is the application process?

An application and non-refundable application fee ranging from $20-$35 is required for each property. The application fee of $20-$35 is used to cover the cost of credit and background screening and is not refundable after the application is submitted. Information cannot be shared across properties.

All adults, 18 and older, who will be living in the household must be listed on the application and will be subject to a credit check and criminal background check.

What are my options if there are no available units in a community I’m interested in?

The following are resources to help renters identify apartments with modest rents.

  • NCHousingSearch.org is an independent bilingual service that provides detailed information about apartments and homes for rent in your area and throughout the state.

  • If you have a Section 8 voucher, you can find available apartments in your area at the Public Housing Authorities of North Carolina.

  • Other resources include the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Affordable Apartment Search and the USDA Multi-Family Housing Rentals.
